South Summit's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They came out on top against the Hillcrest Huskies by a score of 8-5. The Wildcats' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Owen Mair was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Mair wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Hunter Bednerik, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Another was Hayden Simmons, who scored a run.
South Summit moved to 3-5 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Hillcrest, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.
South Summit and Hillcrest will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. South Summit will challenge rival Grantsville at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Hillcrest is set to face off against their familiar foe Stansbury at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
