The Wayne Pioneers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 68-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sissonville. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Several Pioneers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Isaac Meddings, who scored 20 points along with three steals. The game was Meddings' fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaiden Hayton, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, Wayne were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Sissonville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Luke Michael led the charge by scoring 17 points along with eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that Michael pulled down eight or more rebounds. Ethan Taylor was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Wayne bumped their record down to 1-4 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Sissonville, their victory ended a eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wayne will be home for the holidays to greet Buffalo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sissonville will be home for the holidays to greet Calvary Baptist Academy at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in West Virginia (Calvary Baptist Academy is ranked 67th, while Sissonville is ranked 52nd).
