Football Recap: Westlake Falls Short Against Ranked Herriman

Westlake faced Herriman in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Thunder were dealt a 47-16 defeat at the hands of the Mustangs. The Thunder haven't had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.

Westlake lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was MALIK SIKA, who picked up 104 receiving yards and two scores. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 54 yards. BRITTON JOHNSON also helped out with an impressive 105 receiving yards.

Leading Herriman to victory were Felisi Felipe and Tyler Messer. Felipe gained 156 total yards and three touchdowns, while Messer threw for 283 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 10.9 yards per attempt. Another rusher making a difference was Isaac Larson, who rushed for 45 yards and two touchdowns.

Westlake's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Herriman, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.

Coming up, Westlake will be playing in front of their home fans against Copper Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Herriman, they are taking a road trip to challenge Lehi at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs will need to watch out since the Pioneers have now posted at least 31 points in their last four matches.
