Upper Merion Area and Upper Perkiomen are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Vikings will be playing at home against the Indians at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
Upper Merion Area heads in on the heels of a playoff matchup on Monday. They lost 8-2 to Pope John Paul II. The loss continues a trend for the Vikings in their meetings with Pope John Paul II: they've now lost three in a row.
Meanwhile, Upper Perkiomen got the win against Pottstown last Wednesday by a conclusive 9-1. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by seven runs or more this season.
Cole Pierce made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Upper Perkiomen is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 7-8 otherwise. Pierce was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Jordin Dice was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Upper Perkiomen's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-8 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Zane Saeger, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Upper Perkiomen was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Upper Perkiomen pushed their record up to 12-8 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Upper Merion Area, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-9.
Upper Merion Area came out on top in a nail-biter against Upper Perkiomen in their previous meeting on May 1st, sneaking past 3-2. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
