If the Wayne Blue Devils were feeling good off their 67-40 takedown of the Battle Creek Braves on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Wayne took a 54-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ponca on Saturday. The match was a 21-21 toss-up at halftime, but Wayne was blown out by Ponca in the second.
Wayne's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Colson Nelsen, who scored 15 points. Nelsen scored a full 34.9% of Wayne's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Devin Anderson, who scored 10 points along with 5 rebounds.
Wayne's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Ponca, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wayne will take on Wakefield at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Wakefield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Saturday. As for Ponca, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Osmond/Randolph.
