Basketball Recap: Saturday's Defeat Ends Steubenville's Winning Streak

It was a good run, but Steubenville unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 52-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wheeling Park Patriots. While losing is never fun, the Big Red can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 107th in Ohio, while the Patriots are ranked sixth in West Virginia).

Several Big Red players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nylah McShan, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. McShan's evening made it nine games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Phynyx Fleming, who went 5 of 10 en route to 15 points.

Steubenville's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-4. As for Wheeling Park, their win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Steubenville will head out to face off against Brooke at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Steubenville is facing Brooke at the right time seeing as Brooke is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Wheeling Park, they will venture away from home to square off against University at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. University is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.1 points per game this season.
