The Lighthouse Christian Academy Lions fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Columbus Christian Crusaders on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 68-64 loss to they. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Several Lions players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ellie mae Winders, who scored 19 points along with six assists and five steals. Winders hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Abagail Rousey, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Olivia Wise had a dynamite game for Columbus Christian, scoring 29 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wise has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Harden, who scored 12 points along with five assists and five steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Lighthouse Christian Academy and nudges their season record down to 9-6. As for Columbus Christian, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lighthouse Christian Academy will take on Irvington Preparatory Academy at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Irvington Preparatory Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last 11 games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Columbus Christian, they will play host again and welcome Cannelton, where tip off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Cannelton is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
