More than 20 games canceled as virus alters Dallas-area high school football schedule

A recent uptick in COVID-19 cases in the second most populated county in Texas has caused a major shake-up in the weekend's high school football schedule. Health officials in Dallas County reported 238 additional cases and four deaths Thursday, according to NBCDFW.

More than 20 games have been canceled, including contests involving five teams ranked in the state's Top 25 – No. 2 Denton Ryan, No. 8 DeSoto, No. 14 Cedar Hill, No. 19 Allen and No. 25 Prosper.

Denton Ryan and Wylie have already announced they are shutting things down for 14 days and will not play games scheduled for next week either.

The biggest game nationally could also be in doubt as No. 1 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) is in town to face No. 6 Duncanville at Globe Life Park in Arlington on Saturday. As of Friday morning, that game is still on.
