On Wednesday, the Coolidge Colts faced the Idea Timberwolves in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Coolidge took their game at home with ease, bagging a 79-51 victory over Idea. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Coolidge also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2018.
Quintin Cooper was his usual excellent self, scoring 38 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Coolidge's points. Another player making a difference was Makiah Gray, who scored 18 points along with 6 rebounds.
Idea's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Malachi Hoston, who scored 20 points. The matchup was Hoston's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nehemiah Johnson, who scored 10 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Idea struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Coolidge racked up 12.
The victory got Coolidge back to even at 2-2. As for Idea, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Coolidge will square off against Lake Clifton/Reach at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Idea won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Richard Wright Public Charter School at 7:00 p.m. on December 7th.
