Caurus Academy has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Wickenburg Christian Academy Lion at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Caurus Academy is ranked 43rd, while Wickenburg Christian Academy is ranked 51st).
Last Tuesday, Caurus Academy earned a 46-36 win over Verde Valley. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Caurus Academy has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Wickenburg Christian Academy put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They really took it to Telesis Prep for the full four quarters, racking up a 66-35 victory on the road. Considering Wickenburg Christian Academy has won three matchups by more than 24 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Evan Gustin was the offensive standout of the match as he scored 24 points along with seven rebounds. Justen Smith was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Caurus Academy pushed their record up to 6-0 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.3 points per game. As for Wickenburg Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 4-0.
Caurus Academy took a serious blow against Wickenburg Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, falling 55-21. Can Caurus Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
