The Pius X Thunderbolts will be playing in front of their home fans against the Creighton Prep Junior Jays at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Pius X's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
Last Tuesday, Pius X was able to grind out a solid victory over Skutt Catholic, taking the game 64-54.
Pius X's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kellan Humm, who scored 15 points. Humm hasn't dropped below 15 points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Haith, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Meanwhile, Creighton Prep faced Bellevue West in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Creighton Prep fell 73-61 to Bellevue West on Thursday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Creighton Prep in their matchups with Bellevue West: they've now lost nine in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Dillon Claussen, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Claussen is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Trinell Parker, who scored ten points.
Pius X pushed their record up to 10-4 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.5 points per game. As for Creighton Prep, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-3.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Pius X and Creighton Prep are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Pius X hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 65.4 points per game. However, it's not like Creighton Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 63.8 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Pius X came up short against Creighton Prep when the teams last played back in December of 2022, falling 45-33. Will Pius X have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
