The Rosewood Eagles will venture away from home to square off against the Rolesville Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Rosewood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.9 runs per game this season.
Rosewood's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Union with a sharp 19-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won five in a row.
Skyler Strickland was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Strickland was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hayley Bedford, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, two stolen bases, and three runs. Those triples were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Addyson McKeel, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Rosewood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .684. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Rolesville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 13-11 heartbreaker at the hands of Millbrook.
Katie Bolster was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-5. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Marissa D'Antonio was another key player, scoring a run while going 4-for-5.
Rosewood pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.2 runs on average over those games. As for Rolesville, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-9.
Rolesville's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Rosewood has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Rolesville, though, as they've been averaging only 3.4 strikeouts. Will Rosewood keep running through batters, or will Rolesville buck the trend?
