The Maranatha Christian Eagles lost against the La Jolla Country Day Torreys back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. Maranatha Christian took a hard 52-37 fall against La Jolla Country Day. While losing is never fun, Maranatha Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 584th, while La Jolla Country Day is ranked 59th).
Maranatha Christian lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Adrian (A.D.) Ownbey, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Ownbey is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zeke Walker, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Maranatha Christian has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-15 record this season. As for La Jolla Country Day, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maranatha Christian will take on Santa Fe Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Maranatha Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Monday. As for La Jolla Country Day, they will head out on the road to take on Escondido Charter at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Escondido Charter is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 58.8 points per game this season.
