The Porter Ridge Pirates struggled with assists on Friday (the Weddington Warriors had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Porter Ridge ended up on the wrong side of a tough 74-48 walloping at the hands of the Warriors. Porter Ridge has struggled against the Warriors recently, as their matchup on Friday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Rai'shawn Elmore and Dennis Kurucu certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Elmore scored 16 points, while Kurucu scored 14 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Elmore has scored all season. Ziggy Harris was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with two steals.
It was another big night for KJ Younger, who shot 6-for-11 from deep and dropped a double-double on 39 points and ten rebounds for Weddington. Younger is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last eight games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Hamilton, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Porter Ridge's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Weddington, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Porter Ridge will square off against the Cavaliers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cuthbertson has now lost 14 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 4. As for Weddington, they will head out on the road to face off against the Spartans at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Sun Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven last Tuesday.
