The Lafayette Hornets will square off against the Madison County Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lafayette is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Lafayette is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over Hilliard. The victory was some much needed relief for the Hornets as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Khloe Crotts spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Brooke Lamb was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ella McAdams, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Madison County had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 8-1 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Cowboys have posted against the Warriors since April 13, 2021.
Alden Bass was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Bass was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Logan Bass, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Kylee Hutto was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Madison County's win bumped their record up to 17-1. As for Lafayette, their victory bumped their record up to 11-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lafayette has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Madison County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Lafayette came up short against Madison County when the teams last played back in April, falling 7-2. Can the Hornets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
