The Prince Edward County Eagles will square off against the Cumberland Dukes at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cumberland took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Prince Edward County, who comes in off a win.
Prince Edward County headed into their last match having not scored more than two runs for five straight, but William Campbell let them put that streak behind them. The Eagles came out on top against the Generals by a score of 10-6 on Monday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Eagles as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.
The team relied heavily on Jackson Walker, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Clevante Watkins, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Prince Edward County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .520. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Cumberland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They came up short against Buckingham, falling 27-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Dukes were not able to get on the board.
Cumberland saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ayden Brodie, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Prince Edward County's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Cumberland, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Prince Edward County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cumberland struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Prince Edward County beat Cumberland 5-2 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Dukes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
