Last Thursday, McKeel Academy came up short against George Jenkins and fell 40-31. McKeel Academy has struggled against George Jenkins recently, as their contest on Thursday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
McKeel Academy's loss came about despite a quality game from Malayna Sheffield, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and six blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Skyelar Smith, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 55 points the game before, Lakeland were a bit more limited in their game on Wednesday. They were dealt a 76-12 loss at the hands of Tampa Catholic. While losing is never fun, Lakeland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 429th, while Tampa Catholic is ranked 125th).
McKeel Academy has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season. As for Lakeland, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-8.
Everything came up roses for McKeel Academy against Lakeland in their previous meeting back in January of 2022 as the team secured a 53-12 victory. With McKeel Academy ahead 30-4 at the half, the match was all but over already.
