Mingus is 1-9 against Prescott since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Mingus Marauders will look to defend their home court against the Prescott Badgers at 7:00 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Mingus has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Prescott will arrive with five straight wins.
Mingus pushed their score all the way to 62 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 73-62 to Flagstaff.
The losing side was boosted by Alerik Villalobos, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ricky Villalobos, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, even though Lee Williams scored an imposing 55 points on Wednesday, Prescott still came out on top. Prescott took their match against Lee Williams 67-55. Given Prescott's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 28th, while Lee Williams is ranked 174th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Uriah Tenette continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 40 points along with six rebounds. Tenette is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Zane Gaul was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Mingus' loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Prescott, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's contest: Mingus have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 5.1 threes per game. However, it's not like Prescott struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.6 threes per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Mingus was dealt a bruising 67-40 loss at the hands of Prescott in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Mingus avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
