Foothill is a perfect 10-0 against Shasta since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Cougars will challenge the Wolves at 5:00 p.m. Foothill is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
Foothill barely beat Red Bluff the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars blew past the Spartans 10-0 on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Elisea Wiegand was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, Gracie Park was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Taylor Bates also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Foothill kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Shasta lost 9-1 to Pleasant Valley on Friday. The Wolves have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Shasta saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Callie Hemsted, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Foothill pushed their record up to 19-5-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Shasta, their loss dropped their record down to 9-14.
Shasta's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Foothill has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Shasta, though, as they've been averaging only 2.7 strikeouts. Will Foothill keep running through batters, or will the Wolves buck the trend?
Foothill beat Shasta 4-0 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
