The Luverne Tigers and the Calhoun Tigers will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Luverne is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
Even though Luverne has not done well against Highland Home recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Luverne pulled ahead with a 37-36 photo finish over Highland Home. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Luverne has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Calhoun waltzed into their matchup on Friday with three straight wins but they left with four. They were the clear victor by a 75-54 margin over Central. Calhoun has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 21 points or more this season.
Calhoun's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brenterris Managan, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Tyler Robertson, who scored 14 points along with six assists and two blocks.
Luverne's victory bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Calhoun, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.
Luverne came up short against Calhoun in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 54-49. Can Luverne avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
