Basketball Recap: Landmark Christian Comes Up Short

Landmark Christian was the 0-0 winner over Whitefield Academy when they last played one another back in January of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. The Landmark Christian War Eagles had to suffer through a 58-27 loss at the hands of the Whitefield Academy WolfPack. While losing is never fun, the War Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 382nd, while the WolfPack are ranked 180th).

Several War Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Iyrianna Garvin, who posted two points along with ten boards and four blocks. The dominant performance gave Garvin a new career-high in blocks. Addison Payne also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Even though they lost, Landmark Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive matches.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Whitefield Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Emahni Chambliss, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Chambliss has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Hailey Houlder, who earned 17 points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Landmark Christian dropped their record down to 2-13 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Whitefield Academy, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Landmark Christian won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Walker at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Landmark Christian is facing Walker at the right time seeing as Walker is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Whitefield Academy, they will also get right back to it: they'll square off against King's Ridge Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Whitefield Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59 points per game this season.
