Baseball Recap: Scottsdale Preparatory Academy Comes Up Short

Scottsdale Preparatory Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 6-2 to the Fountain Hills Falcons, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. If the Spartans were looking for revenge after losing 16-0 to the Falcons when the teams met back in March of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Cade Zawada was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Scottsdale Preparatory Academy is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-4 otherwise. Zawada was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Scottsdale Preparatory Academy's record now sits at 5-5. As for Fountain Hills, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5-1.

Coming up, Scottsdale Preparatory Academy will square off against Glendale Prep Academy at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Spartans 4.1, the Griffins 2) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Fountain Hills, they will face off against Camp Verde at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Cowboys have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.86 runs per game on average), something the Falcons will no doubt try to take advantage of.
