The Buckfield Bucks will head out on the road to challenge the Sacopee Valley Hawks at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Buckfield has six straight wins, Sacopee Valley has nine straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Buckfield is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Carrabec, who was ranked 20th at the time (Buckfield was ranked 17th). The Bucks blew past the Cobras 13-2 on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Bucks, who have now won five matches by ten runs or more so far this season.

Carmen Crockett was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one double. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Amelia Hill was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Brittany Carrier was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs.
Buckfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carrabec only posted an OBP of .278.
St. Dominic hit Sacopee Valley with a seven-run sixth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Hawks lost 15-1 to the Saints.
Bridget Landry was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases.
Sacopee Valley's loss dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Buckfield, their record now sits at 6-1.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Buckfield has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .485. However, it's not like Sacopee Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .463. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Buckfield took their victory against Sacopee Valley when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 7-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bucks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
