Even if things were shuffled around here and there, the power rankings for this week won't seem too unfamiliar if you've been following along. Don't let that fool you into thinking nothing interesting happened, though. Among the action were the efforts of Hattiesburg's senior Jarod Conner, an offensive menace who scored seven total TDs.
Welcome
Poplarville was the big favorite in its game against Purvis last week, and for good reason. Poplarville picked up a decisive 'W' against Purvis, finishing up at 49 - 0. Poplarville especially relied on junior Casin Sones, who found the end zone on two runs and one reception, and senior Antonio Barnes, who tossed for one touchdown and rushed for one more. The win also thrust Poplarville into the power rankings, where the team now holds the 25th spot.
No Stoppin 'Em
The Picayune offense has been a force to be reckoned with over the past six games; unfortunately, last week Hattiesburg reckoned with Picayune just fine. Picayune took a hit to the loss column with a 49 - 35 setback at the hands of Hattiesburg. Even without the glory of a win, however, senior Jortin Raine still made his mark on the game as he ran for 232 yards and also punched in one touchdown. The combined 84-point effort made this the highest-scoring game in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of the hottest tickets last week involved the clash between Brandon (3rd in the power rankings) and Oak Grove (10th). Brandon came out on top against Oak Grove with a 31 - 21 win. One star in particular for Brandon was senior Dallas Smith, who rushed for 142 yards and one touchdown.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Madison Central (7th in the power rankings) and Northwest Rankin (4th). Both teams are coming in hot off of wins in their previous games. Of course, Northwest Rankin and Madison Central can't both win again this week, so we'll learn on Friday which team falters and which extends its success.
