The Skyline Coyotes's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight defeat. They took a 35-20 bruising from Mesa. While losing is never fun, Skyline can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 142nd, while Mesa is ranked 43rd).
Skyline lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jordan Seiuli, who scored two points along with ten rebounds and two blocks. Jodi Frier was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Mesa had a senior duo take command as Amya Bekele scored nine points along with six steals and Anaya Packer scored eight points along with three steals.
Skyline has not been sharp recently as the team has lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-16 record this season. As for Mesa, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 16-10.
Skyline does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mesa, they will be playing at home against Dobson at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mesa is on a four-game streak of home wins, Dobson a five-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
