The Wheeler County Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They were beaten by Bryan County 66-26. While losing is never fun, Wheeler County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 490th, while the Redskins are ranked 96th).
Bryan County's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kayley Wedlow, who went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 25 points and 4 assists. Wedlow is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Ashanti Brown was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 12 rebounds.
Wheeler County's loss dropped their record down to 1-16. As for Bryan County, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wheeler County will challenge the Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Dooly County is on a three-game streak of home losses, the Bulldogs a ten-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change. As for Bryan County, they will head out on the road to face off against the Bluejackets at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
