For the first time this season, El Campo will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. After each having a week off, they and the Jones Trojans will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. El Campo knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Jones likes a good challenge.
El Campo is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Giddings: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Ricebirds blew the Buffaloes out of the water with a 49-7 final score. With the Ricebirds ahead 21-0 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

El Campo didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jonah Poenitzsch and Jackson Bystrek. Poenitzsch is also on a roll when it comes to defended passes, as he's now defended at least one in each of the last four games he's played. El Campo got some further help from Mason Cortez: he picked up a sack, made ten total tackles, and defended one pass.
Meanwhile, there was early excitement for Jones after they claimed the first score last Friday, but it was Hallettsville who ended up claiming the real prize. The Trojans were just a hair shy of victory and fell 27-26 to the Brahmas. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Although Jones took the loss, they still got scores from KD Cano, Davyn Perez, Tyler Lang, and Brayden Martorell.
El Campo pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 49.3 points over those games. As for Jones, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
Friday's contest might be decided in the trenches. El Campo has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 290 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Jones, though, as they've been averaging only 91.2 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Everything came up roses for El Campo against Jones in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 42-0 win. Will the Ricebirds repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
