There's no place like home for The St. Paul Swordsmen, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They snuck past St. Francis with a 37-32 win on Friday. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
St. Paul found their leader in underclassman Gabriel Castaneda, who threw for 243 yards and two touchdowns on only 17 passes. Another player making a difference was Nate Calderon, who picked up 96 receiving yards and a touchdown.
St. Francis' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was John Calmette, who rushed for 53 yards and three touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of John Sanders, who threw for 195 yards on only 18 passes.
St. Paul's victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 5-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.7 points per game. As for St. Francis, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-2.
St. Paul will be playing in front of their home fans against Santa Barbara at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Santa Barbara is coming into the contest hot, having won their last seven games. As for St. Francis, they will head out on the road to face off against San Juan Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Timmy Herr and Sanders.
