Softball Recap: Haughton Wins Going Away Against Evangel Christian Academy

Haughton won the last time they faced Evangel Christian Academy and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Haughton Buccaneers put the hurt on the Evangel Christian Academy Eagles with a sharp 9-2 win. The Buccaneers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.

Charlee Prothro was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off eight hits. That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed over her last six matchups. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Haughton got a massive performance out of Brianna Benecke, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two doubles. The dominant performance gave Benecke a new career-high in doubles. Clara Shaffer was another key player, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4.

Haughton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.

Haughton has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. Evangel Christian Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Haughton will square off against Byrd at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Evangel Christian Academy, they will take on Word of God Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
