The North Haven Nighthawks will face off against the Guilford Grizzlies at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. North Haven hasn't scored more than a single run for three games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.
Thursday just wasn't the day for North Haven's offense. They came up short against Mercy on Thursday, falling 6-0.
Meanwhile, Guilford got the win against Sheehan on Friday by a conclusive 10-3. That's two games straight that the Grizzlies have won by exactly seven runs.
Sarah O'Brien made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Peton Lemay and Ella Munson did most of the damage at the plate: Lemay went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Munson got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Munson has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennadie Tansey, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
The win made it two in a row for Guilford and bumps their season record up to 10-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for North Haven, their loss dropped their record down to 4-13.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. North Haven hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Guilford struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
North Haven came up short against Guilford in their previous meeting back in April, falling 10-5. Will the Nighthawks have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
