Softball Recap: Sunnyside Wins Going Away Against Pueblo

Sunnyside won the last time they faced Pueblo and things went their way on Saturday too. Sunnyside put the hurt on Pueblo with a sharp 12-2 win. Considering the Blue Devils have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Ashley Rosthenhausler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Soleil Ponce and Kasandra Alcaraz did most of the damage at the plate: Ponce scored three runs while going 3-for-4, while Alcaraz went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and one stolen base. Ponce continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Vianney Cruz also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Sunnyside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pueblo only posted an OBP of .238.

Sunnyside has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. Pueblo has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sunnyside will head out to challenge Buena at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Buena has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.88 runs per game on average), something Sunnyside will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Pueblo, they will venture away from home to square off against Cienega at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
