The Heavener Wolves will head out on the road to face off against the Wilburton Diggers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Heavener will be strutting in after a win while Wilburton will be coming in after a loss.
Last Friday, Heavener earned a 36-27 win over Hugo. The victory was just what Heavener needed coming off of a 35-13 loss in their prior matchup.
Heavener can attribute much of their success to Jaxon Armstrong, who rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries, and Pj Riddley, who rushed for 235 yards and two touchdowns. Armstrong was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 60 yards.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Wilburton, who are still winless after their seventh match. They took a 32-15 bruising from Valliant on Thursday.
Heavener now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Wilburton, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-7.
Everything came up roses for Heavener against Wilburton in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 41-14 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Heavener since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
