The Olathe Pirates's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight defeat. They took a 56-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Grand Valley. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Olathe of the 70-55 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
Despite the loss, Olathe saw an underclassman step up: Isaiah Gordon scored 24 points. That was a full 55.8% of Olathe's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Miguel Vargas, who scored nine points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Grand Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Andrew Horner, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds. Leonardo De la cruz was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Olathe dropped their record down to 3-13 with that loss, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Grand Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-9 record this season.
Olathe will head out on the road to face off against Roaring Fork at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Roaring Fork focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 last Saturday. As for Grand Valley, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Cedaredge at 7:00 p.m. Cedaredge will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Grand Valley surely won't give up without a fight.
