If the Ashley Screaming Eagle were riding high off their 58-36 takedown of the South Brunswick Cougars on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Ashley took a 49-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Laney. While losing is never fun, Ashley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 280th, while Laney is ranked 48th).
Several Screaming Eagle players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Coen Locklear, who scored 15 points. Another player making a difference was Quinn Bentley, who scored 13 points.
Laney found their leader in underclassman Quin?sier Waddell, who scored 15 points. That's the first time this season that Waddell scored 15 or more points. Avery Pruitt was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with eight rebounds.
Ashley bumped their record down to 2-5 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Laney, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ashley will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Holly Springs at 12:00 p.m. on December 28th. Laney will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Panther Creek at 1:30 p.m. on December 28th.
