Mansfield scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Midlothian, 49-35. At the time, the Panthers were ranked 23rd in the state, while the Tigers were 134th.
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Midlothian, who took down 23rd ranked Midlothian, 49-35.
Lee Wiginton's team's dynamic duo of Bryce Fausett and Brendon Cornell proved tough for Mansfield to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Fausett threw for 122 yards and two touchdowns and Cornell had 82 yards receiving. Victor Williams helped Midlothian's passing attack out by catching one ball for 22 yards.
Jaquan Cole was the most productive running back in 5A Region I District 7 this week. In 10 carries, he ran for 167 yards as Duncanville lost to Jeff Hulme's team. Teammate William Jackson added to the ground attack by rushing for 95 yards.
Midlothian's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Panthers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Fausett has thrown for 662 yards and eight touchdowns this season, while Cornell has 27 catches for 349 yards. Justin Seeton leads the league in rushing with 610 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when DeSoto takes on Midlothian. As it stands, the Eagles are in first, while the Panthers are in third.
There should be lots of points scored when DeSoto and Midlothian face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Claude Mathis' team comes in having scored 173 this season, while the Panthers have scored 228. The Eagles scored 61 points last week as they bested Mansfield Timberview.

Grand Prairie moved up to 455 from 508 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region I District 7. The Gophers climbed the ranks as a result of falling to the Panthers 41-26.
