The Wyomissing Spartans will take on the Tulpehocken Trojans at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Wyomissing is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Wyomissing will bounce into Monday's match after beating Blue Mountain, who they had gone 0-5 against in their five prior meetings. Wyomissing came out on top against Blue Mountain by a score of 7-3 on Saturday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.
Wyomissing got a great performance from Chase Bailey as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
At the plate, Teddy White and Noah Rauenzahn did most of the damage at the plate: White scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Rauenzahn scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. What's more, White posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Parker LaFerriere was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Tulpehocken hadn't done well against Pine Grove recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Tulpehocken put the hurt on Pine Grove with a sharp 9-2 victory. Considering the Trojans have won three contests by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Grant Gehman made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Gehman was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.
In other batting news, Luke Bowers was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. Jared Baer also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Wyomissing's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Tulpehocken, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Wyomissing has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Tulpehocken struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Wyomissing took their win against Tulpehocken in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-2. Does Wyomissing have another victory up their sleeve, or will Tulpehocken turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
