Pasco is 2-8 against Wiregrass Ranch since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Pirates are taking a road trip to challenge the Bulls at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Last Thursday, Pasco got the win against Central by a conclusive 10-3. Considering the Pirates have won eight matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Andrew Blommel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Boomer Newton, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Yanuel 'Yanni' Mercado, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Pasco was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Central only posted a batting average of .208.
Meanwhile, Wiregrass Ranch came into Friday's game having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They blew past Land O' Lakes 10-4 on Friday.
Connor Sutton looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Julius Jessurun was incredible, going 3-for-5 with five RBI and two runs. Pedro Castro was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Pasco's record now sits at 10-6. As for Wiregrass Ranch, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 5-11.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Pasco has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wiregrass Ranch struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Pasco suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Wiregrass Ranch in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Pirates avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
