On Tuesday, Sweetwater earned a 9-6 win over San Ysidro.
Tatyana Mosqueda spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Sweetwater let Audrey Murillo and Gabriella Sena run wild. Murillo went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, while Sena went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits Murillo has posted since back in March of 2024. Valeria Rodriguez was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, Montgomery gave up the first runs last Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with an 11-7 victory over San Ysidro. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Aztecs.
Montgomery got a massive performance out of Brianna Torres, who went 2-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordyn Coleman, who went 2-for-5 with one home run and one double.
Montgomery kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive contests.
Sweetwater's win bumped their record up to 15-2-1. As for Montgomery, their victory bumped their record up to 13-9.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Sweetwater has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .546. However, it's not like Montgomery struggles in that department as they've averaged .466. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Sweetwater's way against Montgomery in their previous matchup two weeks ago, as Sweetwater made off with a 22-5 win. Will the Red Devils repeat their success, or do the Aztecs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
