Callum Page made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Riverside-Durham is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 3-5 otherwise. Page was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
Riverside-Durham always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Heritage and Sanderson, and Heritage kept the tradition alive. The Huskies put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 13-3 victory on Wednesday.
Holden Kafes looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits (and only one walk).
At the plate, Cameron Small and Leighton Cash did most of the damage at the plate: Small went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Cash went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Small is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Grant Hackemack, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Riverside-Durham's win bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Heritage, their victory bumped their record up to 14-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Riverside-Durham has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Heritage struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
