Basketball Game Preview: Magnolia Science Academy Pirates vs. NOVA Academy Eagles

The Magnolia Science Academy Pirates will head out to take on the NOVA Academy Eagles at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Magnolia Science Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matches.

While Magnolia Science Academy didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victor by a 60-35 margin over Bethel Baptist on Tuesday. The Pirates have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 25 points or more this season.

Magnolia Science Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Devin Gonzales, who posted 14 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Gonzales is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tobi Bamidele, who had 13 points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, NOVA Academy came into Thursday's game having lost 16 straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 41-38 win over Bethel Baptist on Thursday.

Magnolia Science Academy's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.5 points per game. As for NOVA Academy, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.
