The Rabun County Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the Elbert County Blue Devils at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Rabun County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matchups -- so hopefully Elbert County likes a good challenge.
Rabun County suffered their biggest defeat since December 21, 2023 on Tuesday. Their tough 81-60 defeat to Athens Christian might stick with them for a while. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game on Friday (59), Rabun County still had to take the loss.
Despite their defeat, Rabun County saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Cooper Welch, who scored 24 points along with eight rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Huey Blalock was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with seven assists and six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Elbert County had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They had just enough and edged Commerce out 54-52. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Elbert County has posted yet this season.
Elbert County's win on Tuesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Grady Jones, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Landon Hill, who scored 14 points along with four steals.
Rabun County has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for Elbert County, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-14.
Rabun County beat Elbert County 57-47 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Elbert County's Quan Moss, who scored 20 points along with two steals.
