Baseball Recap: Tuesday's Defeat Ends Tome's Winning Streak

Tome dropped their record down to 6-6 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell 11-7 to the Greenwood Mennonite Flames. The Titans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Flames apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Noah Reyes was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases and three runs. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times he's played. Blaine Pendergraft also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

As for Greenwood Mennonite, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.

On Greenwood Mennonite's side, Trenton Tempel (HS) made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. Tempel (HS) was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one double. Greenwood Mennonite is 4-1 when Tempel (HS) posts two or more runs, but 2-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, Greenwood Mennonite let James Adams and John Kent run wild. Adams went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double, while Kent went 1-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Nate Zdobysz (HS), who went 2-for-5 with three RBI and one run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Tome will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Pennsville Memorial at 7:00 p.m. on May 20. As for Greenwood Mennonite, they will face off against Holly Grove Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
