The Central Cabarrus Vikings put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. Couldn't have asked for a better start to 2024 than the 85-47 blowout they got at home against West Rowan. Considering Central Cabarrus has won 12 games by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Central Cabarrus had a senior duo take command as Desmond Kent Jr. scored 22 points along with five rebounds and three blocks and Josh Dalton dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. The matchup was Kent Jr.'s 13th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emari Russell, who scored 14 points along with five steals.
Despite the loss, West Rowan still got an impressive performance from Will Givens Jr., who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Givens Jr. scored a full 44.7% of West Rowan's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Central Cabarrus' victory was their 22nd straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 90.5 points per game. As for West Rowan, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Central Cabarrus' homestand continues as they prepare to take on Concord at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th. Concord will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 191st, while Central Cabarrus is ranked ninth). As for West Rowan, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Robinson at 7:30 p.m. Robinson and West Rowan are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads.
