After a string of four wins, the Montgomery Academy Eagles's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell to Stanhope Elmore 60-56. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Montgomery Academy came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 47th, while Stanhope Elmore is ranked 305th).
Brewer Welch and D.J. Vinson certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Welch scored 15 points along with 9 assists and 8 rebounds, while Vinson dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. Vinson continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Seth Edwards, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Montgomery Academy's defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 8-2. As for Stanhope Elmore, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Montgomery Academy will take on Montgomery Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Stanhope Elmore, they will head out on the road to face off against JAG at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. JAG is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
