Wethersfield and Newington are an even 4-4 against one another since November of 2014, but not for long. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 6:00 p.m. on November 22nd. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with 11 consecutive losses dating back to last season for Wethersfield and eight for Newington.
Last Friday, Wethersfield was beaten by Manchester 60-20. While losing is never fun, Wethersfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut football rankings (they are ranked 86th, while Manchester is ranked 35th).
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought contest, but Newington had to settle for a 20-17 loss against Bristol Central on Friday.
Although Newington took the loss, they still got scores from Akari Rosemond and Aiden Bengtson.
Wethersfield bumped their record down to 0-9 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 12.2 points per game. As for Newington, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.
Wethersfield couldn't quite finish off Newington when the teams last played back in November of 2022 and fell 17-14. Can Wethersfield avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
