The New Plymouth Pilgrims will take on The Ambrose School Archers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. New Plymouth is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52 points per game this season.
Last Wednesday, New Plymouth was able to grind out a solid victory over Nampa Christian, taking the game 44-33. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Pilgrims.
New Plymouth's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cohen Evans led the charge by dropping a double-double with 15 points and 14 boards. Evans is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down 14 or more in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Hawker, who en route to 12 points along with six boards and three steals.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for The Ambrose School against Parma on Wednesday as the team secured a 59-32 win. The Archers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 20 points or more this season.
New Plymouth better keep an eye on Tristen Trevino. He was instrumental in The Ambrose School's win, dropping a double-double with 24 points and ten rebounds. Those ten boards gave Trevino a new career-high. Kaelan Custer was another key player, putting up ten points and four steals.
The Ambrose School smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive contests.
The Ambrose School is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.9 points over those games. New Plymouth's victory bumped their record up to 16-7.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: New Plymouth has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 34.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like The Ambrose School struggles in that department as they've been averaging 38 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
New Plymouth barely slipped by The Ambrose School in their previous matchup on February 7th, winning 57-56. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was The Ambrose School's Lincoln Mathis, who almost dropped a double-double with 35 points and nine rebounds. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will New Plymouth still be able to contain Mathis? There's only one way to find out.
