Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 13 more assists than your opponent, a fact the Yorktown Tigers proved on Saturday. They blew past Jay County 69-31 at home. Given Yorktown's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 78th, while Jay County is ranked 256th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Yorktown was led to victory by Kieran Tewari and Nate Tyler. Tewari scored 14 points along with seven rebounds, while Tyler scored 17 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Tyler has scored all season. Mason Moulton was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds.
Jay County's loss came despite strong showings from Eli Dirksen and Gradin Swoveland. Dirksen scored four points, while Swoveland scored ten points.
Yorktown's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-8. As for Jay County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-11.
Yorktown has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Muncie Central at 7:30 p.m. on February 13th. Muncie Central is coming into the contest with seven straight losses on the road, meaning Yorktown will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory. As for Jay County, they will challenge Norwell at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Jay County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Saturday.
