Leonard is 1-7 against Gunter since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. We've got a battle between Tigers coming up. Leonard has given up an average of 10.1 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Leonard is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Monday. They came up short against Bells, falling 11-1.
Leonard saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kallie DeBord, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run. That hit was DeBord's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Gunter had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They blew past Blue Ridge 13-3. Considering Gunter has won 11 matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Rylee Dunn was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had over her last seven games. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Riley Zey was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Aeris Herman, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-4.
Gunter always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Blue Ridge only posted an OBP of .238.
Leonard's loss dropped their record down to 2-14. As for Gunter, their win bumped their record up to 13-7.
