Gallatin and Springfield are an even 3-3 against one another since August of 2014, but not for long. The Gallatin Green Wave will head out on the road to face off against the Springfield Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gallatin is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road.
Last Friday, Gallatin humbled Wilson Central with a 37-6 victory. The result was nothing new for Gallatin, who have now won three matchups by 31 points or more so far this season.
Za'kyian Brinkley continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 151 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. Brinkley is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Stroup, who rushed for four yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Springfield was able to grind out a solid win over Hunters Lane two weeks ago, taking the game 14-7. Given Springfield's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee football rankings (they are ranked 111th, while Hunters Lane is ranked 259th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Springfield's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Clarence Cobbins led the charge by rushing for 131 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries. Springfield also got a significant boost from Parker Betts, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 114 yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Hunters Lane to a paltry 127 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Springfield's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out five times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Josh Lee and his two sacks.
Their wins bumped Gallatin to 5-3 and Springfield to 4-4.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday' matchup: Gallatin has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 369.9 total yards per game. It's a different story for Springfield, though, as they've been averaging only 200 per game. Will Gallatin be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will Springfield flip the ?
Gallatin came up short against Springfield in their previous matchup back in August of 2018, falling 31-26. Thankfully for Gallatin, Bryan Hayes (who threw for 192 yards and three touchdowns on only 17 passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
