The Socorro Bulldogs are taking a road trip to challenge the Montwood Rams at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Socorro comes in on ten and Montwood on five.
On Tuesday, Socorro made easy work of Coronado and carried off an 11-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won 20 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Danielle Lozoya was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mia Dominguez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Jaslyn Gardea was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Socorro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .519. The last time their batting average was this high was back in February.
Meanwhile, it may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Montwood ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They skirted past Eastwood 3-1.
Soph Sandoval was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-5.
Socorro pushed their record up to 28-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Montwood, their record is now 26-7.
Socorro skirted past Montwood 8-7 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
